- Galvanized steel and mill
finish aluminum painting
recommendations:
- Clean surface with mineral spirits to
remove oil and grease.
- Lightly rough up surface with fine
steel wool.
- Clean with moist rag and let
dry.
- Clean again with isopropyl (rubbing)
alcohol.
- Set tubes on lumber or clean surface
for painting.
- Spray lightly on one side, and ends,
with Rust
Destroyer and let
dry.
- Turn, do next surface and repeat until
2 thin coats have been applied.
- Next spray a thin coat or 2 of sandable
automotive spray primer.
- Lightly sand with fine sandpaper and
wipe clean with moist cloth. Let Dry.
- Now spray or brush a thin coat or 2 of
your exterior grade finish paint.
- Erect frame, clean and touch up with
finish paint.

Select paints that are the least toxic. Always read and follow
safety precautions. Typically these include; wearing protective
rubber gloves, eye protection such as splash goggles or safety
glasses with slide shields, use only with adequate ventilation,
avoid prolonged contact with skin and breathing of vapor spray
mist or sanding dust. Close container after each use. Keep out of
reach of children. Do not take internally.
