Ventilation Questions & Options: --

Do you sell heat powered greenhouse vent openers or recommend automatic vents? No, exhaust fans and inlet shutters (louvers) are the best choice. Place fan high and shutters low. Hinged roof and side wall vents, opened by heat powered vent openers, can be a major hassle. Vent openers work in theory but often not in practice. Plus, achieving adequate ventilation requires a substantial quantity of vents. Low inlet vents should equal 10% of floor area. Roof vents should equal 20% of floor area. Vents should be built so that no obstruction to air movement exists when vent is fully opened. Construction of vents that operate properly, and do not leak, is much easier said than done. Roof vents also get in the way of shade cloth. Wall vents, unless screened, will let in rodents. Due to the quantity of vents needed and the custom fabrication required, the final cost is usually much higher than an electric system. An electric system will work better and cost less. Size fans and purchase ventilation equipment direct from manufacturer.

What about sliding roof vents for pool enclosures? No, we recommend sliding glass doors on the walls and a large exhaust fan.
